The Gonadotropin LH ELISA kit is intended for quantitative determination of luteinizing hormone in human serum.
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a glycoprotein with molecular mass of about 30 kDa consisting of two subunits, α and β. LH is secreted by the frontal lobe of pituitary gland and stimulates testosterone synthesis in testicles. Together with the other hormones, LH regulates menstrual cycle in females.
Increased LH levels are observed in patients with different forms of hypogonadism (primary ovarian or testicle insufficiency, polycystic ovary, menopause…), renal insufficiency and cirrhosis. Decreased LH levels may result in sterility in both sexes, are observed in the case of dysfunctions in hypothalamus or frontal lobe of pituitary gland
Quantification of LH is useful for diagnosis of menopause, determination of exact ovulation time and for endocrine therapy monitoring.
